The Scholars We Need vs. The Scholars We're Creating
We’re producing scholars who know the texts, carry the titles, and follow the methods, but lack the inner freedom to lead in a changing world. When students skip self-examination and build their identity on validation, scholarship turns safe, cautious, and repetitive. This piece challenges that trajectory. It calls for scholars who do the inner work first, who build courage, clarity, and independence before credentials, and who can engage tradition with confidence while responding honestly to the realities of today.
